The Department of Economics is one of the oldest departments of
the University and largest one in the Faculty of Social Sciences
in terms of students enrollment which stands close to 450. At
present the department consists of 16 faculty members and most
of them have to their credit education and training from reputed
Universities of Pakistan as well as from abroad.
Teaching & Research
Besides teaching the department also provides consultancy
services and in- service training facilities. Faculty members
are actively engaged in research and also provide research
guidance to candidates enrolled for the degrees of M.Phil and
Ph.D. Seven candidates are presently enrolled for M.Phil. and
four for Ph.D. studies. The faculty has also been contributing
regularly in the National/ International journals of Economics
and allied fields. Their publications cover studies in various
branches of Economics.
In- Service Training
Short term refresher courses, seminars and lectures on current
economic affair are conducted at regular intervals in various
branches of Economics. The staff members of affiliated colleges
generally benefit from training facilities offered by the
department. The Department’s airconditioned Seminar Library with
6000 books, provides acces to latest publication and journals on
various branches of Economics.
The Honours and Graduate courses in Economics are designed to
provide an advanced and upto date knowledge of Economic Theory,
Quantitative Economics, Statistics, Finance, Research
Methodology and Applied Economics including the knowledge about
the economy of Pakistan in general and of the province of Sindh
in particular.
The courses have been desigend with the objective to provide
necessary theoretical background and research skills in
economics so that the end product is capable of treating
economics and financial analysis to suit job requirements as
Economists, Bankers, Financial Experts, Research Analysts,
Agricultural Economists and Socio-Economic Experts.
